Rackspace has taken an active role in fostering startup companies.

On Tuesday, the San Antonio-based hosting company announced the formation of the first cloud-based focused TechStars in San Antonio. The company has partnered with TechStars for awhile. It offers free hosting services to companies selected for the technology incubator program.

StartupCamp takes places at the ITExpo West conference at the Austin convention center, It showcases five startup companies and a keynote address from Bob Metcalfe, co-inventor of the Ethernet, founder of 3Com, author of Metcalfe’s Law, VC and professor of innovation in the Cockrell School of Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin.

The event kicks off at 4 p.m. with a networking reception, followed by Metcalfe’s keynote at 5 p.m. and then the pitches from the five startup companies. The startups include Vox.io a voice and video communications tools that allows for one-click conference calls, netBlazr, which bills itself as Skype for broadband, Radish’s ChoiceView which allows mobile smart phone users to see and hear information during a call, Spindows, which is video networking for companies and Flash Valet, a mobile solution that enables valet parking customers to use their mobile phone to request their vehicle, pay, earn rewards.
