Silicon Hills News

SiliconHillsNews is a start-up technology news site covering the Austin and San Antonio region, known as Silicon Hills.
We write stories about entrepreneurs, companies, technology events and issues and creative people.
My name is Laura Lorek and I started Silicon Hills News after winning one of four $12,000 awards in the J-Lab and McCormick Foundation’s New Media Women Entrepreneur 2011 program. That grant provided the seed funding to launch.
Covering technology in Central Texas is our passion. And we’ve been doing it for long time.
Before launching Silicon Hills News, I worked as a senior writer at the San Antonio Express News covering high tech and business news stories.
But now my full focus is on making Silicon Hills News the best tech news site in Central Texas. And we’re heading to our third anniversary in September. We’ve accomplished so much in such a short time including growing our readership and publishing a print magazine funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign.
Thank you! We’re living our dreams and pursuing our passions and we get to write your stories for a living and hang out with some of the best and brightest minds. There aren’t too many jobs that can top that.

Senior Writer for Silicon Hills News:

Susan Lahey has covered some of Austin’s most compelling stories in the Austin Start Up world for Silicon Hills: people like Whurley, Richard Garriott, and Josh Baer as well as covering conferences and events like SXSW. A veteran reporter and former associate magazine editor, she’s worked for both national and regional publications and once had a weekly column on the challenges of entrepreneurship. As a journalist and content writer, she’s transitioned to the digital age of journalism, but still believes that what’s important is the human story behind the big idea; the team behind the technology. She lives in Austin.
